This term has been incredibly short with 2 bank holidays, but as always it has been busy at school.

The GCSE exams have started and year 11 must make sure they balance resting and revising during next week’s half term break. There is still learning to be completed and ‘prep’ sessions before exams mean attendance remains essential until the final exams.

Year 10 recently completed their practice expedition for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. They showed good camp craft skills and learnt a lot about their navigation skills before their qualifying expedition on 13th & 14th June.

Year 10 also had a very positive Parents’ Evening recently and I know they will be putting into practice the advice they were given before their mock exams begin on 19th June. Advice and guidance on revision strategies can be found on the school website.

I am delighted to share that we have successfully appointed new PE, MFL and Maths teachers ready for the new school year in September. We have also appointed an additional English teacher. We look forward to these new staff joining us. They will hopefully all be in school before the summer to start to get to know the students and where relevant meet their tutor groups.

The work on the new MUGA/Astro begins during the holidays. This does mean the school site will have some areas that are fenced off and are out of bounds to ensure everyone’s safety. We will also have to adjust our emergency/fire drill procedure during the works and this information and a practice will take place with students straight after the holidays. The work is projected to be finished before the summer holidays but is obviously weather dependent.

After the holidays we have Year 8 Parents’ Evening on Monday 9th June. Year 6 students who are joining us in September will be visiting us on Thursday 3rd July during the day and I know the current students will be good role models and help them where they can. Friday 4th July is planned to be Sportsday but is obviously subject to the weather! Tuesday 8th July is the KS3 merits Tea Party and week beginning 7th July is the Blyth House Positive Contribution week.

Year 10 will be on Work Experience from 16th July to 22nd July. If there are any last-minute questions or queries about this, please contact Mrs Seeman.

Monday 21st July will be Careers Day for years 7 – 9, and the last day of term Tuesday 22nd July will be Activities Day. Information about the wide range of events on offer will be shared after the holidays. Space will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

In September, students return on Thursday 4th September.

I hope everyone has a restful half term and the weather continues to be fine.
