Local Governing Body
The Local Governing Body (LGB) was established by, and reports to, the board of Sapientia Education Trust via its committees. It operates under agreed Terms of Reference and a Scheme of Delegation, meeting, formally, four times within the school year.
Abiding by a Code of Conduct, we monitor the work of the school, focusing on the three core functions of governance:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
We work closely with both the school and the Trust, with each governor focussing on an area of expertise, setting the vision for the school and ensuring that it works efficiently and effectively towards achieving that vision. We do this by building a thorough knowledge of the school and its community, by both supporting and constructively challenging the school, and by ensuring accountability and compliance. Our focus is on the progress and outcomes of the students and ensuring that the school promotes the highest of standards and aspirations.
We can be contacted at governors@shs.set.education or via the school office.

Thinking of joining us?
Have you the time to join us?
I would like to invite you to apply to join the Local Governing Body of Stradbroke High School. Thinking it’s not for you? Can I just ask that you read on before you decide?
The LGB works closely with both the school and the Trust, setting the vision for the school and ensuring that it works efficiently and effectively towards achieving that vision. We do this by building a thorough knowledge of the school and its community, by both supporting and constructively challenging the school, and by ensuring accountability and compliance. Our focus is on the progress and outcomes of the students and ensuring that the school promotes the highest of standards and aspirations.
To do this well, we need members of our community who care about our young people and who want to be involved in making a difference to their years at high school. Anyone over the age of 18 can apply to be a governor and, while those who no longer work can bring the skills and experiences of a lifetime to the LGB, the younger members of our community can bring vital skills and an insight into the challenges our young people face.
Our Governors are expected to:
- Attend 4 formal and, occasionally 2 informal, meetings of the LGB per year
- Visit the school formally for monitoring purposes
- Visit the school informally, wherever possible, to attend events such as open evenings, careers evenings, awards evenings, productions, concerts etc.
- Commit to attend training courses in order to build knowledge, skills and keep up to date with statutory changes
- Read meeting documentation and data on school standards in advance of meetings
- Perform additional research as required and assist in monitoring specific areas e.g. Website and Safeguarding
You do not need to be an expert in the field of education to be a governor. A background in or a knowledge of Safeguarding, Audit or Education would be beneficial as would the skills to be able to provide both support and challenge.
What is paramount is having an interest in the school and the welfare of our students and, the time to get involved.
I sincerely hope that you will be interested in joining us. If you are, then please write to me either via the school office or by email to governors@shs.set.education providing a brief explanation of why you would like to join us and what skills you could bring to the LGB. If you would like a chat before doing so, please get in touch with the school office on 01379 384387 to leave your contact details so that I can give you a call.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Karen Lynch
Chair of Governors
