Mrs Millar's Blog - May 2026
Posted on 22nd May 2026As we reach the end of this half term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many achievements across our school community and to thank you for your continued support.
Our Year 11 students have now begun their written GCSE examinations, and we are incredibly proud of the mature and positive mindset they have shown. Their focus has been commendable, and we encourage them to maintain this momentum with further revision over the halfâterm holiday to ensure they feel fully prepared for the weeks ahead. Year 11 students are required by law to continue to attend school until their last exam.
Earlier this term, Year 10 successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition, demonstrating teamwork, resilience and determination throughout. It will stand them in good stead of their forthcoming qualifier expedition. Year 9 also enjoyed a productive and engaging Personal Development morning, taking part in sessions designed to broaden their understanding of key life skills. Mrs Rowe ran the theatre trip to see “To kill a Mockingbird” which was a wonderful experience and I was delighted when the theatre contact the school to praise the students for their behaviour.
In addition, our Year 10 Parents’ Evening was very well attended, and it was encouraging to see families engaging so positively with staff as students prepare for their upcoming mock examinations. Dr Panter led a successful Biology trip to a conference for year 10 students where they learned alongside students from other schools. Finally, Ethan Stringer represented the school at the regional Speak Out Challenge. He spoke with confidence and fluency in front of a packed auditorium at Dance East in Ipswich, talking about the need for young people to become politically literate. Well done to Ethan, we are so proud of him.
Looking ahead, we have a busy and exciting half term ahead:
- Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition – 5th & 6th June
- Year 11 Leavers’ Assembly – 12th June
- Year 8 Parents’ Evening – 15th June
- Year 10 Mock Examinations – 15th June to 3rd July
- Year 5 Taster Day – 17th June
- Year 6 Intake Day and Evening – 2nd July
- Sports Day – 10th July
- Year 10 Work Experience Week – 13th to 17th July
- KS3 Careers Day – 16th July
- Enrichment Day – 17th July
These events offer valuable opportunities for students to develop new skills, celebrate achievements, and experience learning beyond the classroom.
As we head into the break, I would like to thank all students and staff for their hard work and commitment this term. I hope everyone enjoys a restful and refreshing halfâterm holiday, ready to return on Monday 1st June energised for the busy and rewarding weeks ahead.
