Mrs Millar's Blog October 2019

Already a sixth of the school year is completed; we finish in style later this week with our annual Awards Evening. It is a special night, a particular highlight for me as we recognise and reward our amazing students for their effort and achievement across the curriculum. I am sure it will be another busy but successful night.  I look forward to seeing many of you there.

When we returned to school in September, we certainly hit the ground running. Already we have had a trip to the Peel Science Lecture, a year 11 Geography field trip to Felixstowe, another successful taster day for year 6, our Open Evening and year 9 parents’ evening. We have also welcomed our local MP Dr Dan Poulter to meet students and discuss current political issues as well as careers in medicine and law, hosted a very busy Post-16 careers evening, run the first of many mock exams for year 11, celebrated musical success with more exam passes and,on top of all that, our sports teams have been busy. Next half term will be no different, I’m sure!

There has been a real energy and buzz around school this first half term, which has impressed the many visitors we have had. Last week I met with and completed a tour of the school with Mr Peter Rout, Chair of Trustees of Sapientia Education Trust. He was impressed with the calm, but purposeful atmosphere is lessons and the confident way our students spoke about their learning, particularly the year 7s who have settled so well.

I would like to remind everyone that now that the dark evenings are upon us, it is important that all students think about their safety when out and about. Please encourage students to wear a helmet and bright clothes if cycling and to use the available pavements if walking.

Celebrating student success is important to us. Parents: please don’t be shy about telling us of your child’s successes. We like to use our website and social media accounts to recognise achievements from outside as well as inside school. If you do have a success to share, please contact the main office.

I would like to wish everyone a restful October half-term break, but please, Year 11, get some revision completed for your mocks!!!
