Head's Blog January 2019

Posted on 10th Jan 2019

2019 has started very positively at school, with students returning from the Christmas break ready to commit to another term of hard work and study.

For Year Eleven, this is their final full term of preparation for their GCSE exams this summer. I am delighted with the progress that they are making in lessons, and anticipate that they will make a real success of their exams when the time comes. Other year groups are also making excellent progress, and I am especially excited about the numbers of students proudly wearing their merit badges to reflect the effort that they are putting into their work. I am particularly pleased to have awarded our very first ‘600 merit’ badge to Spencer Kent – congratulations to Spencer for always putting so much effort into his school work.

The rehearsals for our production of ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ continue apace. The technical crew are working on the sound and lighting, the scenery is being built and the cast are already nearly word perfect with their scripts. I urge you all to come along to see the show at the end of next month as I am sure that you will be impressed with the quality of this production. Keep a close eye out for when tickets go on sale.

We are delighted that we are hosting a visiting GB Olympic athlete this month. Working with Inspired Through Sport we have arranged for Kathryn Thomson, a short course speed skater, to come in to speak with our students about growth mindset, healthy living and fitness. We are really looking forward to hearing about her experiences, including her achievements at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. In preparation for Kathryn’s visit, students will be encouraged to raise sponsorship to support this event, and help fund her continuing Olympic journey.

On the theme of winter sports, some of our students are getting very excited about their skiing trip to Italy which is taking place in February half-term. To help them prepare for this trip they will be visiting the dry ski slope in Ipswich during this month. Thanks to Miss Beale for her organisation of this super opportunity for our students.

Please regularly look for updates on all our activities on this website. I am looking forward to continuing to work with you and your children to ensure another successful year for all members of the school community. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you want to discuss any aspect of school life.
