On 4th June twelve of our Year 8 and Year 9 students visited University Campus Suffolk Ipswich to take part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) challenge event.  They were:  Ciaran Carr, Kerry Scarfe, Alex Pierce Saunderson, Ben Brown, Skye Lintott, Evan Read, Adam Childs, Amelia Chilvers, Georgia Spicer, Sam Hurren, Heather Cutler and Levi Chapman.

Seven schools took part and overall there were around twenty teams made up of four students from two different schools.  The pupils were all slightly apprehensive about working alongside unfamiliar students but they ended up really enjoying the day and getting to know some new faces.

There were four challenges; building a Lego robot, building a model car, building a bridge and creating an e-fit face.  The students all enjoyed the challenges that demanded a considerable amount of thought and skill, but were fun as well.  They also had the opportunity of looking around the campus and meeting students studying at the University of Ipswich as well as others from Durham University and Kings College London.

This was a great day out and our students did us proud.  Out of the four challenges, two of the winning teams contained Stradbroke pupils, Ben Brown, Skye Lintott, Evan Read and Adam Childs.  Even better - two of our students, Evan Read and Adam Childs were part of the overall winners.  This means that their team goes forward to represent Suffolk at Kings College London next year.  Their prize cups were awarded by the High Sheriff of Suffolk.

Congratulations to all twelve pupils for an excellent effort and a great achievement!
