The music department would like to express sincere thanks to the Britten-Pears Foundation for allowing Year 10 musicians to visit 'The Red House' in Aldeburgh on the morning of the 21st February. We truly relished the chance to explore the home of Benjamin Britten; Suffolk's greatest musical son, and one of the greatest British composers of all time. What a truly wonderful experience it was; indeed the whole place is so atmospheric that we felt that Britten himself could have arrived at any moment!
The pupils visited the house, gallery, studio, archive and library. We were even given the chance to play Britten's famous Steinway concert grand piano in the library. The curator of the collections and the team of expert archivists were very generous in giving up their time to talk to us. We look forward to developing stronger links with the BPF in the future. The whole experience was both memorable and inspiring.
