An 11-16 Academy
Stradbroke High School musicians celebrated the arrival of Christmas in style with their annual Christmas concert in the main hall. An appreciative audience was treated to a festive mix of favourites from across a range of genres and periods. This year, a variety of soloists were joined by smaller groups, as well as the brass ensemble, orchestra, choir and amplifier group.
Beautifully expressive vocal solos from Annalise Rolfe and Charlotte Watson, as well as a sensitive vocal duet from Lily Cossey and Arwen Maguire enhanced the contributions made by the instrumental groups. Mature brass solos were performed by Josie Palmer in Year 7, Jessica McInnes in Year 8 and Lee Chilvers in Year 11. They were complemented by Heidi Bevan and Spencer Pretty-Kent (both in Year 10), who provided accomplished performances on the piano. The wide range of styles helped to achieve a really atmospheric evening, ranging from the warm tone of the brass ensemble to the magical three part singing of the school choir.
A real highlight was seeing Mr Thomas demonstrate his ability to perform on percussion in a combined choir and audience rendition of 'Merry Christmas Everyone'. This piece seemed to go down very well with all the students!
Well done to everyone who made the evening such a vibrant success.
