An 11-16 Academy
Following the cancellation of Sports Day the previous week, the day started brightly and with the weather set fair the day’s proceedings got underway with the field events. Pupils took part in a range of jumping and throwing competitions and it wasn’t long before the first school record was broken, with Atlanta Wilkinson beating the previous best distance set in 2007 for the Year 9 Girls’ Discus.
Lunchtime saw a change of emphasis from field to track, with pupils enjoying the sunshine and cheering on members of their respective houses. With ideal running conditions pupils were producing some lightning quick times, particularly in the 200 metres.
This year’s new event “The Mile” was well received as pupils completed 4 laps of the track at their own pace. Steven Cook in Year 10 was the event’s inaugural winner, completing the race in just over six minutes.
The afternoon drew to a close with the annual pupils versus staff relay. The optimistic staff team felt that this could have been their year after so many disappointments in years gone by. However, following one of the most disastrous changeovers since Team GB at London 2012, it was not to be. Training for next year’s relay team is already underway.
Once the points were added up McCartney House emerged as the winners, with Grylls in second and Einstein coming in third.
A huge well done to all those involved!
