Year 4 pupils from our feeder primary schools were treated to an especially warm welcome in the school library earlier in the term.

The pupils were in school for a ‘taster session’ of High School life and all attended the ‘Reading Café in the library where the tables were decorated with checked table cloths, a menu and a cake selection.

Students from years 8 and 9 waited at table and took orders of poetry (Starters) and short stories (Main Course). The selections were then read aloud by the waiters and waitresses to their customers who listened while tucking into cupcakes and squash.

Dessert was a selection from the trolley where each pupil chose a book to take home in a ‘To Go’ bag along with bookmarks, wordsearches and a bookplate to stick into their new book. Great excitement was generated when time was given to decorating their bags and personalising them. A prize was awarded to the best decorated bag.

The young pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, particularly the fact that older students spent time with them and showed an interest in their reading. Our own students displayed great maturity and sensitivity when interacting with the primary children.

It is hoped that when the children join Stradbroke High School in the future, they will feel at home in the library and will recognise a few friendly faces.
