Despite a weather forecast which left a lot to be desired, the Qualifying Expedition remained dry and even, at times, sunny!  Spirits were high and determination ruled.

The start point was just outside Aldeburgh and participants had planned their own routes to the campsite at Eastbridge.

The site is on a farm, is small and very basic (two huts with a toilet and washbasin – no showers or other ‘luxuries’), but just the job for DofE. An energetic game of football in the evening proved that the participants were not too exhausted, but Mr Todd sustained injuries as a consequence of over-enthusiastic play.

Day 2 involved walking from Eastbridge to Walberswick – taking them across Dunwich Heath and Walberswick Marshes.

The assessor was very pleased with the participants, their navigation skills and campcraft. He commented on the excellent  behaviour and attitude and was very pleased to pass them all for the ‘journey’ aspect of the expedition.

It now remains for them to complete their Expedition projects and make a presentation to parents and governors in order to complete the Expedition section of the Award.
