Today, with help from the Smallpeice Trust (spelt correctly-honest!) year 9 pupils enhanced their understanding of problem solving, creativity, design and engineering. Working together in small groups they were teams of engineers working on an island facing drought. They had to create a wind turbine, with a tower, turbine and gearing system connected to a generator to produce electricity. Year 9 mathematicians have just completed a project to analyse the eye colour of boys and girls in the school. Year 9 first put together tables of data they had collected from each 'House' then used different ways of representing the data, including pie-charts, bar charts and comparative bar charts, before writing about their conclusions.
