VOSH discussed introducing shorts to the school uniform, these would be a set length, 129 year 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s thought it would be a good idea. We also said that we should ask the future year 7s what they thought as this would affect them too. The next stage is for Mrs Hurren to take the idea to Senior Management for consultation by the Governors.
For the dove…Continue

Rachel is going to ask students who would want to be able to wear shorts and then we can give this information to Mr Axtell and ask whether it might be possible. If there is a majority this might then go to Governors.
Distributing VOSH minutes
We discussed how important it is to let the school know what we are talking about. It was agreed that Emily would take the minutes (and possibly also Zak), and then Megan would type them up and…

In today's meeting it was decided that the remaining money should be given to our new gardening club for equipment or plants. We will get them to let us know how it is spent.
We also had a discussion about charity events in the coming year. There was a debate about whether we should have a whole week of charity events organised by the Houses which could then be a competition to see how much money they can raise, or whether there should be three main events spread out throughout the…Continue

Today VOSH took a full school assembly and each member talked about what we have achieved this year and what we would still like to do in the coming year. This year we have changed the name and logo of the school council, we have made the council optional and have a large number who choose to come on a Friday morning. We have raised money for charity, allocated specific roles such as website officers who update the website each week. We have members who take minutes of the meetings and…Continue

Main issues discussed this week was a possible fundraising event, an email expressing the idea of a gardener’s club and research into funding table tennis and table football equipment.
The table football table is due to be repaired by the caretaker and will cost very little because of the minor damage. Table tennis bats cost around £10 each and 72 balls would cost £20.
Harry Abblett suggested a fundraising event for people with neurofibromatosis. The day would…Continue

In the first VOSH meeting of March, there were new topics of discussion. A gardening club was suggested which would involve improving the flowerbeds in the courtyards. We are looking into finding a gardener to lead it – either a teacher or a professional and we will be sending out an email to ask which staff might like to be involved.
Also in the courtyards, the idea of an additional table tennis table was suggested as well as replacement bats for the existing one as they are…Continue

On Friday, 26th February VOSH met up and further discussed how to spend VOSH’s £300 budget. New ideas included a meditation club for GCSE students in order to relieve stress, private facilities for Year 11s such as a kettle and money toward air conditioning improvements in certain areas. Another idea was to fund replacement resources in English due to a large amount of missing pencils and other equipment.

The eco-group plan to meet on Monday break times, with anyone interested welcome to join and attend.

VOSH’s suggestion of the GCSE Pods was hugely popular from both pupils and staff and as a result, it has now been given the “Go-Ahead”. This will allow pupils to revise at home and teachers to set specific revision topics with greater ease due its portability. It is available as an app on Android, Blackberry and iOS platforms.

In the first meeting of 2016, VOSH discussed the recent visit from Parting Seas (a charity from Kenya). One idea brought up was to help raise money for a home tutor for the girls at the home. Whether or not this will take place will be further discussed.
Another topic raised was GCSE Pods. The results were hugely in favour of the mobile application. Over 85% voted in favour. If agreed by staff, it will be investigated further.
The Eco-Group has also formed and…Continue

In recent VOSH meetings we have discussed about how we can improve the recycling at the school. We came up with the idea of a new poster as a replacement to the current blue one which can be displayed above all recycling bins around the school. In addition, all eco-group members will take it in turns to take the recycling to the outside bins.
We have also discussed about a possible new resource called “GCSE Pods”. A survey has been carried out for Years 9,10 &11 to have…Continue
