On the afternoon of the 11th December at the Parish Church of All Saints Stradbroke, musicians from Stradbroke High School were joined by those from a number of our feeder primaries, including Fressingfield, Laxfield, Stradbroke, Wilby and Worlingworth for our annual pyramid carol service.

Stradbroke musicians celebrated the arrival of Christmas in style with their annual Christmas concert in the main hall. An appreciative audience was treated to a festive selection of favourites from across a range of genres and periods. The school orchestra today got four days of fundraising off to a great start by opening the Stradbroke High School 'Musicathon'. Over the course of this week, numerous musicians from across the school are performing to raise money and awareness for both 'Children in Need' and the Syrian refugee crisis. The event has been organised by the new school council called VOSH (Voice of Stradbroke High).

On Tuesday 29th September a number of our gifted Year 10 and 11 musicians invited friends and family to an informal performance evening organised by the music department. The students, who are all studying music at G.C.S.E level, provided a varied and polished evening of entertainment.

A capacity audience filled the main hall on a beautiful summer’s evening on the 2nd July. They were treated to an eclectic programme which highlighted the quality of musicianship amongst the pupils of Stradbroke High School.

On Tuesday 30th June, the music department welcomed over sixty excited and enthusiastic Year 5 pupils from our feeder primary schools to our annual music day. The vast majority brought the musical instruments that they are learning at primary school in order to take a full and active part in the day.

The creative and performing arts were celebrated in true style on the evening of March 5th with our first showcase event. A large number of pupils from across the school came together to participate in an exciting mix of dance, drama and music. An appreciative audience filled the main hall for our annual summer concert. A varied programme highlighted the breadth and depth of musical talent that exists in abundance at Stradbroke.
Polished performances from the choir, brass ensembles and orchestra were enhanced by confident solos and duets. Particularly memorable was Steve Cook’s technically assured performance on cornet of Handel’s Sonata in B flat.

Well done to Mrs Ryan and the Stradbroke Band who performed brilliantly on Friday 9th May at the Marina Theatre, Lowestoft. The evening was organised by Suffolk County Music Service and saw musicians from the North Suffolk String Ensemble, North Suffolk Youth Concert Band as well as our own band performing a varied selection of music. The Stradbroke Band rehearses every Friday in term time at Stradbroke High School.

On Wednesday 7th May as part of an enhanced learning day, Year 8 visited the internationally acclaimed music facilities at Snape Maltings. The guided tour included a visit to the wonderful concert hall with its amazing acoustics, as well as a look around the rest of the complex. The pupils also developed their understanding of the life and music of Benjamin Britten. Many thanks to the education team at Aldeburgh Music for an enlightening visit.

Musicians from Stradbroke High School performed at a memorable event to mark the centenary of the First World War. The day was organised by the Laxfield and District Museum, and took place in Laxfield on Saturday 3rd May. Many congratulations to Steve Cook in Year 11, who performed with the Suffolk Youth Brass Ensemble at the Ipswich Regent Theatre on the 18th of October, alongside principal brass players from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Steve was one of only fifteen brass players selected from across the county to perform in this prestigious event. This was a wonderful opportunity for young Suffolk musicians to be taught by, and perform with professional brass players of international standing.
