On Saturday 27 November Lawrie Hammond and Sue Ackerley from FOSH – Friends of the High School - donned their overalls and safety boots and drove around the village in Levi Smith’s truck picking up unwanted metal. It was a dreadful day with hail and freezing rain. However, an amazing amount of old stuff was thrown on to the pavements following the school’s plea for scrap metal.
Two very full truckloads plus two trailers and a pick up were collected that morning and weighed back at…

We have had a fantastic response to our twilight sessions for Gifted and Talented Year 9 and 10 students. They are working towards an essay about the relationship between science and religion and 16 students attended the first session. They were all challenged by the material and enjoyed the discussions.

We first started with a bit of a worry as the last time we went against Hartismere we got thrashed 18-1. However, we wanted to get our own back and try to play at our best ability, We started off really well and moved into space. We scored 3 times which we were quite pleased about, but then they scored 1. We didn’t want to finish the first game losing so we fought back and scored 1 more goal. This made it 4-1. Miss Firbank gave us lots of moral support like we needed because we were so cold.…Continue

Post 16 evening at SHS
The annual careers event for Years 10 and 11 was held on 10 October. Around 160 pupils and parents attended to talk to the 21 different organisations represented.
The ‘next stage’ can be a daunting prospect made more apparent by the changing school leaving age. From September 2013 all pupils must stay in education or training until at least 17 years and from 2014 it will be 18 years. Most pupils do this already and as college courses and…Continue

At the end of the…Continue

On Tuesday Stradbroke hosted the annual High Suffolk Netball tournament for the under 16’s and under 14’s.
The under 16 team were up against a number of strong teams. Despite a bit of a rocky start, the team started to work together better as the games progressed. A win against Bungay gave the whole team a boost. Chloe and Amber held the team together fantastically in and around the centre third and Abbie and Sophie worked particularly hard in the shooting circle, despite strong defence…

Welcome to the new school year and a special welcome to our new Y7 pupils and parents. The Governors at Stradbroke High School are looking forward to another successful year and we will be working hard with Andrew Bloom and his team to drive up standards even further.
Walking around the school during the first week of term, I was impressed with the mature way the pupils have addressed the new academic year and I was especially impressed with our new Y7 pupils who were…Continue

Congratulations to our Year 11 pupils on their GCSE examination results. 70% of pupils achieved C or above in Mathematics and 68% achieved C or above in Science. As with many other schools nationally, we believe that English grades on the C/D borderline have been affected by the unannounced grade threshold changes and we are therefore seeking a substantial number of paper remarks.
We look forward to welcoming all our pupils back to school on Wednesday 5th…Continue
