English at SBEC

Welcome to the English department whose students, this summer, achieved over 81%, grades A*- C, in English. This is result of our determination and passion in ensuring that everyone achieves their target grades. Our aim to improve upon last year's results by looking for new and exciting ways to deliver your lessons so that you are left feeling confident about your understanding of English.

The study of English should give you the scope for individual thought, response and expression. It is our aim to enhance your creative and analytical skills to enable you to reach your full potential.

You will have the opportunity to produce your own writing and to learn how to draft, edit, improve and present your work to the highest possible standard. Through the reading and study of texts, you will be encouraged to develop your own responses to language and literature, to advance your understanding of how writers use words and to evaluate the contextual factors associated with any play or text studied.

As part of our schemes of work, the key skills of: spelling, grammar and punctuation are taught in the Key Stage 3 and revised at KS4. The new GCSE English Language and English Literature places significant emphasis on these skills so it is important that you understand the need to plan and check your work carefully.

Most of our lessons demand you to actively participate, as much as possible, as we strongly believe that the more you communicate in lesson, the better your academic writing will become.

Here is a link for our current year 10  and 11students that are taking the NEW AQA English Language: Paper 1Paper 2 and English Literature: Paper 1 LiteraturePaper 2 Literature.

We organise lots of educational visits to local or London Theatres, throughout the year, to enrich your understanding of some the key plays we study at Stradbroke.

Our Team

Miss R Ling - Head of English

Mrs R Spence - Teacher of English

Mrs H Rowe - KS3 Co-ordinator and Teacher of English

Year 7 trip to see 'Jack and the Beanstalk' at Norwich Theatre Royal

December 15, 2016 from 9am to 2pm
Every year we organise a trip for year 7 pupils to see a pantomime at Norwich Theatre Royal. It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience live theatre and ask the cast questions about the production; we feel this is a lovely way to finish their first term at Stradbroke High. See More
