An 11-16 Academy
Welcome to the English department whose students, this summer, achieved over 81%, grades A*- C, in English. This is result of our determination and passion in ensuring that everyone achieves their target grades. Our aim to improve upon last year's results by looking for new and exciting ways to deliver your lessons so that you are left feeling confident about your understanding of English.
The study of English should give you the scope for individual thought, response and expression. It is our aim to enhance your creative and analytical skills to enable you to reach your full potential.
You will have the opportunity to produce your own writing and to learn how to draft, edit, improve and present your work to the highest possible standard. Through the reading and study of texts, you will be encouraged to develop your own responses to language and literature, to advance your understanding of how writers use words and to evaluate the contextual factors associated with any play or text studied.
As part of our schemes of work, the key skills of: spelling, grammar and punctuation are taught in the Key Stage 3 and revised at KS4. The new GCSE English Language and English Literature places significant emphasis on these skills so it is important that you understand the need to plan and check your work carefully.
Most of our lessons demand you to actively participate, as much as possible, as we strongly believe that the more you communicate in lesson, the better your academic writing will become.
We organise lots of educational visits to local or London Theatres, throughout the year, to enrich your understanding of some the key plays we study at Stradbroke.
