Drama at Key Stage 3

Year 7 8 & 9

In Year's 7,8 & 9 the focus is on building confidence, self esteem, and group work skills.  Various topics are studied which help to develop these skills along with subject specific skills and the ability to interpret text.

GCSE Drama

The Drama course at GCSE follows the Edexcel syllabus which comprises elements of both practical and written work.  Throughout the two years pupils will complete 3 components comprising; devising, performance from text and a written examination.

Course Outline

Component 1

Devising  40%

Practical devised group work where pupils explore a range of stimuli in order to create an original performance piece. Pupils also produce a portfolio evaluating the process which has to be between 1500 and 2000 words.

Component 2

Performance from Text  20%

A performance of 2 key extracts from a text.  This is externally assessed by a visiting examiner.

Component 3

Theatre makers in practice  40%

This is a written examination  - 1hr 30 mins.

Section A:  1 question based on an unseen extract from a text which pupils have studied.

Section B:  2 questions on a theatre production that pupils have seen.  Notes up to 500 words may be taken into the exam.

'Blood Brothers' theatre trip

On 21st September the GCSE Drama group went to the Theatre Royal in Norwich to see the long running hit musical 'Blood Brothers'.  'Blood Brothers' is a multi-award winning show which has seen 10,000 performances in London's West End.  It is only one of three musicals ever to achieve that milestone.   The fact that our pupils were able to see it at a 'local' theatre was an opportunity not to be missed!

The drama department is in full swing rehearsing the next school production, 'The Sound of Music'.

With a talented cast ranging from Year 7 to Year 11 pupils everyone is working hard to learn dialogue and songs.  You might have seen us rehearsing at Open Evening in the drama studio; we hope the Year 6 pupils who came to look round liked what they saw.

In full swing!

'Joseph'

Well done and thank you to all the pupils who took part in the school production of 'Joseph' in March.  The show was a resounding success with 2 standing ovations on the 2 evening performances!!
