Art Department

The Art and Design Department

Welcome to the Art and Design Department. My name is Christine Phillips and as well as having the privilege of being Deputy Headteacher, I am also Head of Art and Design. I am delighted that Lawrie Hammond also teaches Art and Design, mainly in Key Stage 3. My role is to lead the department and ensure that our Art and Design Curriculum meets the needs of all our pupils and that it inspires, motivates and challenges them all. We are passionate about Art and how it can improve our lives in so many ways. Our curriculum explores a range of skills, techniques and materials. We use the work of other artists to inspire and inform our work. We research, think, develop ideas, experiment with materials, look at the work of others and then produce high quality, original Art !

You will see Art all around the school; from the staff portraits that have now become a feature of our curriculum, to the corridors and reception area full of Art ! Attainment in Art is high at SBEC. GCSE Art results are consistently some of the highest grades in the school. This summers Art results were 87% A*-C.
